American Red, White and Blue Family Photos {Tyler}American Red, White and Blue Family Photos {Tyler} Potsdam Based Photographer: Natalie’s Studio| Family There are so many great things to say about this photo shoot. And it turned out so wonderful you would not guess it had some challenges to it. But before I tell you the story, first I want to say how much it means to me to have families like this to work for. I have several families that come back to my studio year after year and it is truly one of the greatest joys of my job. I love getting to know people. I love that I get to be a part of people’s happiest moments; weddings, babies, 1st birthdays, more babies, new homes, graduations and more. It really means so much to me that people value my business and the relationships we build to make me part of their special moments. And I have great pride knowing that my artwork is bringing them joy every day when they see it in their home. I just wanted to say that because it really means a lot to me. <3 Ok, so back to the photo shoot. Liz and Justin got a new home! Yay!!! I am so excited for them. And it such an adorable house and property. When Liz and I were chatting about doing some family photos to keep watching their sweet little girls grow, she brought up the idea of doing it at their new house. She was thinking she could use it as “We’ve Moved” announcements too. I LOVED the idea! So, we set it up and decided on doing Red, White and Blue. And I also offered to bring over my radio flyer red wagon to keep with the “All American” theme. The day of the actual photo shoot it was SUPER windy, like blow you away wind. So, we moved it to the next day and hoped for slightly less wind. Which it was… slightly. Luckily, we were able to keep everyone facing into the wind and angle the shots so that it all worked out. But it was a bit of a challenge. (And a big thanks to my husband Matt who came along to help. He held lights so that they did not blow away in the wind. Plus, I was very pregnant, so he did all the heavy lifting for me. I am so lucky. I could not have done it without him.) Our second challenge was working with toddlers. I have toddlers at home myself, so I am well versed in toddlers. Plus, I love kids. However, no amount of experience will help persuade a 3-year-old to warm up to you in 5 minutes. But after the first set of photos little Ellie warmed up a little and then by the end she was all smiles and stealing the show. Plus, we had help from some tricks we had with coins to stand on and smarties to earn and hold between their back teeth. Also, another advantage of working with families over time is the kids get to know you and the parents learn how to jump up and down behind the camera to get kids to smile and look. (Great job Liz and Justin.) I will tell you; photoshoots are more of a workout than you would think! And everything turned out beautiful. We dodged the wind and won over the little ones and got the cutest summer photos I have seen. Don’t you agree? Look at how adorable Avery and Ellie look in these. Avery is such a good little model and Ellie’s eyes are the most beautiful blue. Once we got her smiling it was melting my heart. I loved the red white and blue outfits and the cute little jean and lace overalls. And I was so pleased to create two different portraits that celebrated this beautiful family and the purchase of their new home. It could not have turned out better.
