Spring Baby Pink and Navy Maternity Session {Brittani & Nate}

I am so excited for my friend Brittani who is expecting her baby girl any day now!  I am thinking and waiting every day for her sweet baby girl to arrive.  So, while we wait please enjoy some of the maternity portraits, I did for her and husband Nate. 

Brittani let me just be creative with her photo shoot.  I wanted to try 2 different things.  First a very classy in studio image with a plum colored dress and lots of moody dark tones to it.  I LOVE the way it turned out.  I am trying a new editing technique where I use a mixer brush to “paint” on the dress to give it a flowy “old masters” painter look.  What do you think?  Do you like it or not?

And the second thing I wanted to try was challenging myself to use my extender on my 70-200 lens. (And shoot only natural light outside.) I wanted to get a really soft and creamy background.  So I used that combination and moved really far away for the shots.  And then I did some with my 50mm at a wide aperture too. 

I styled Brittani in a baby pink lace maternity dress and a big peony head dress.  There is something I love about big floral head dresses for special occasion photo sessions, especially maternity.  They make me feel like I can bring the image to a new level of femininity and beauty.  I made her head crown with cotton balls, peony’s and eucalyptus leaves.  I like how the eucalyptus is a muted green and not too bright.  I think it looks nice against the birch trees we shot by. 

I also love that Nate wore his navy suit.  He looks great in a suit and I especially love the nave one.  It is from his wedding too, so I think that is extra special.

Well… I just can’t wait to see their little one.  Stay tuned to meet sweet baby Caster.  Hopefully she arrives any day now!
