Night Photos in Canton NYNight Photo Shoot in Canton NY Potsdam Based Photographer: Natalie’s Studio| Fun Photo Shoots Recently a few photographer friends and I got together to practice night photography. Jennifer McClusky of McCluskey Photography and Maria Weston of Weston-Garvey Photography and I got together to do a fun photo shoot. We wanted to test some new gear and lighting techniques for night portraits. All of us are members of the Professional Photographers Society of Northern New York. We started in a field in Canton near dusk and tested some different ways to use off camera lighting. I found that my beauty dish works a lot better than my soft box in this scenario. (Also always remember to bring bug spray in this scenario!) I was practicing with a long lens (with an extender) at that point so the field photos almost look like they are done in the studio. Then we traveled over to the main street in Canton NY to attempt to get some shinning street light photos. We had to dodge a few quick rain down pours but they quickly passed. In fact the rain made the street glimmer with lights since it was wet after. I tested my new wescott rapid box soft boxes on the street and they worked great. I think they will be a great addition to my on location gear. Our wonderful models were Laura and Megan. Both are physical therapy students at Clarkson University. These lovely ladies agreed to model for us so that we had great subjects to photograph and practice on. They did a great job and I think we all had a lot of fun.
